It is unlikely that tho Germans will risk a great battle with the Aisne, behind them, but whether tho retirements are a prelude to a vast retreat like that of 1917 will soon bo revealed. LONG range GUN. (Reuter’s Telegram.) PARIS, August 5. The long rauge bombardment of the city has been resumed. INCREASING RESISTANCE. IN SOISSONS-RHEIMS SECTOR. (Received This Day at 9.25 a.m.) / LONDON, Aug. 5. Tlie “Daily Chronicle’s” correspondent on the French Front reports, between" Soissons and Rheims the enemy resistance is increasing. Allied patrols which crossed the Aisne and the \ esle at various points, met with stubborn resistance, especially near Fisnies, Sermoise and Muizon. The Germans’ artillery fire is intense on tho Allied troops.
