BRITISH POLITICS.
I [per tress ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.] | CONFLICTING RUMOURS: (Received This Day at. 1 LONDON, July 9. Tlicro are many rumours in political ' circles that Hon. Lloyd George ond Hon Bonar Law have approached Hon. Asquith and suggested that ho shoulj be■eorno loader of tho Commons, and thus i definitely attach himself to tho coalition ! otherwise ft Government candidate will I oppose tho Asquithities at the general election. This, combined with the opposition of tin; Labourites would prob-, ■ ably result in the virtual extinction of Liberalism. In the event of Mr Asquith’s acceptance, in view of the fact; that he holds Kent Liberial funds, Hou Lloyd George would be confirmed in the leadership. The political position is one of extreme piquancy in view of the circumstances in which Mr Asquith left i office, and the ’"Daily News” continual attacks on Lloyd George. The position is complicated by the facAhat the Northcliffe newspapers referring to the new rumours, intimate they wijl oppose the Governmeit if Mr Asquith is allowed ro-entor it.
