A DARING FEAT,

LONDON, July 8. Mr. Percival Phillips writes that the Germans, evidently worn out \vith their previous fighting and discouraged by their failure to receive relief, fell back from the shell-holes and allowed the Australians to occupy them. Their low spirits is shown by a grey-liaired Australian officer, who daringly climbed to the roof of the market place and unfurled a‘ French flag. German artillery opened fire bub the daring officer reached the ground safely,-as a shell knocked off a corner of the building. The shelling of the flag continued all day, but it is still waving triumphantly front the battered masonry.
