RXCITIXO OMSK IN SYDNEY.

A sensational escape from custody of ii suspected man and his subsequent recapture. occurred in Sydney some days ago. From information received at police headquarters from the manager of the Motel Arcadia two detectives word de--1 ailed to sleep at the hotel one night About 8 o’clock next morning they decided to question a man, and met him on the third floor outside one of the rooms. On being asked to conduct the detectives to bis room, the suspect watk od on, but when at the top of the stops bo struck at one of the detectives. Thu officer fell, and before his colleague could cover the ground the mail leaped over .the bannister and ran down tbe stairs to tbe ground floor.

He dashed out of tbe hotel into tha arcade and was chased by a porter. He ran the v.> arcade to Castlereagb Street, and a civilian attracted by the cries of “Stop; thief!” caught him by the. collar; But lie freed himself and bolted across to tbe King Street corner. There a constable went close to catching him, but the man sidestepped and re-crossing the road entered a side door of Muir’s hotel. 4

In leaving tbe Hotel by the King Street entrance he was humped into by another civilian who knocked him over the head with a walking-stick. A constable then arrested him. The suspect sagged groggily to the footpath as lie was rising .
