FOR NEW ZEALANDERS IN FAR EAST.

This month’s appeal is for the New Zealanders in Egypt, Palestine and Mesopotamia', who will receive in smokes the benefit of all funds raised for the purpose in Westland. Below are some acknowledgments already received from the East, where it will be seen local men from here have been the recipients of Overseas parcels in the past. A personal gift to these men on active service is quite worth while, and this means of reaching the men should not be missed by those who would like to do a little to help the men who are winning the war.

Somewhere, 1/11/17.-—Very many thanks for your kindness and consideration in forwarding the cigarettes. It is an established fact that a Pig Islander goes “ over the top ” smoking a backshee cigarette. So here’s “Bon Sante,” Monsieur.— J. P. Aimiuit.
Mesopotamia, 26th Feb , 9 S. Parcel of cigarettes from tho Overseas Club reached mo in good condition. I was agreeably surprised to find this card already addressed enclosed and to learn that tlm donor hailed from the same district- a myself. Good fag-i aie much appreciated here. . Upper Mesopotamia, 10th Feb., 1918.—Many thanks for the cigarettes which were of tip-top quality and anived when wo were just about out. It was a coincidence getting a packet sent from my own town. Palestine, 27th Dec, 19:7.—Dear Sir, —I hereby thank you very much indeed for the gift packet of smokes which came to hand in splendid order yesterday, and were just what our sector wanted as we were in the saddle practically all Xmas Day in teeming rain, Mostly all of us had all our personal effects on our saddles saturated, and had not these gift cigarettes come to hand when they did there would have been a smokers famine in our Squadron. Dear Sir, I have to thank you for cigarettes received. I cm tell you they are a treat as we rarely get Ui.it brand .Things are going on well hero and it is only a matter of time when we will be back in New Zealand,— Slept. W. J. Dow sett.
