RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE

The following are the details of receipts and expenditure under the Consolidated Fund for the. past financial year, published in this week’s Gazette. The Finance Minister on April 30, inti, mated that there would be a surplus of revenue over expenditure for the year of 6,000,000. The expenditure increased from £6,095.355 in 1916-17 to £6,668,810 in 1917-18. The principal items were interest and sinking fund, which increased from £4,014,791, to £4,930,779. War pensions from £180,165, to £515, 383. Old ago Pensions from £453,085 to £612,462. Expenditure under annual appropriations for end of two years showed an increase of nearly £500,000.
