Fines totalling 120,- ! 071,000 pesetas were imposed on weal- ; thy individuals and cities, this figure including fifteen thousand pesetas fines imposed on Alsatian children, who insisted on speaking French. More than fifty thousand British prisoners were taken, as against 124,806 Germans by the British hut it must b© remembered that the British treat their prisoners with notable kindness, while Germany treats British prisoners with extreme rigour, so that the Germans hav© secured a superion moral effect. ■Several thousand British prisoners died through disease and scanty food, and othors from accidents. German papers state the Queen of Roumanian lias announced she will refuse to recognise the peace, as she -prefers abdication to reigning in a German ruled country. Queen Marie’s children shall share her views, and never lost an opportunity of insulting the Germans.
KIEFF NEWS. -/ ( j (Received this day at 1.30 p.m.) BERNEi May y. Kieff newspapers state anarchists at 'Moscow have secreted groat quantities of arms and ammunition including I mountain machine guns. Bolsheviks i vainly demanded their surrender, and I then stormed the munition depots, arrested and imprisoned four hundred anarchists. It is estimated there are six thousand anarchists in Moscow which is the headquarters of the organisation.
