It is notified again in General Orders that “drinking, by commissioned officers in hotel bars, being detrimental to discipline, is strictly forbidden,” “ That compulsory retirement after 40 years’ service, or after the age of 65 years, to all officers drawing over £370 per annum, be recognised and enforced,” was a resolution passed by the Wairarapa branch of the Post . and Telegraph Association on Friday.

It does not appear to be known generally that a . soldier in Eugland may operate upon bis account in the Post Office Savings Bank without any trouble. All he has to do is to apply to the High Commissioner through his military headquarters, for a remittance. The High Commissioner then cables to tho Post Office Savings Bank in New Zealand, and. the remittance, is immediately despatched by cable. If a soldier should cable personally to the Department a remittance cannot be forwarded because of the question of identification.

Mr. George Bridgman who takes charge of the Methodist circuit in succession to Rev. H. Ryan, arrives in Hokitika on Friday morning to take up his now duties.

Mr. C. Tooliey was advised \ to-day that is son Albert G. Toohe.v was admitted to hospital in France between 12th and 16th April, suffering from a gunshot, wound in the left leg, which was fractured. Three other brothers are also at the front.

In this issue Mrs. S. Wogan’s carry, ing business is offered for sale by tender as a going concern, closing on Saturday next. The business has a wide and connection and carries with it the. agency of the N.Z. Express Company. At the meeting of'the householders at Reefton on Alonday night, there" were over 240 present. As a number were unable to gain admission an adjournment was made from the school to the Theatre Royal.
