OPIUM SMUGGLING. £3OOO WORTH LANDED. unavailing efforts at CAPTURE. SYDNEY March 14. Acting on information that it wai intended to .smuggle opium from : vessel at Mort-s l.viofc, two hidden policemen saw two men land two heavj hags, supposedly containing £3OOI worth of opium.'and convoy them t< a waiting motor car. which immediately started. The Police attempted to stop them and emptied their revolvers at the fly ing ear. Other police stationed along the road made similar unavailing efforts. Later the car, with four bullet holes in various parts was found abandoned. There was no trace opium. TAVO ARRESTS. Received, this day at B.4s'a.rn. SYDNEY This Day. Two arrests have been made in connection with the opium smuggling.
