William Nash, aged 14 years a discharged soldier working at Put arum, passenger to Wellington attempted to board the train at To Kuiti last evening, but missed bis footing and tell. Hie train passed over him and lie died almost immediately as a result of his injuries. .He was a native of Sydney. AN UNAUTHORISED STRIKE. 4 . GISBORNE, March 1, The cliambcrmen at the Kaiti Freezing Works ceased work on Wednesday Twenty-five men are involved. The Freezing Workers’ Union does not approve of the. men’s step, ! which was taken without the Union being eon •suited. The union is assisting the company to find men to take the] strikers’ places, and work is being continued without interruption. It is contended that the men’s action brings them within the war regulations. The union was negogtiatiug with the local, freezing companies for an increased bonus, and a satisfactory arrangement was arrived at, but in the meantime the men referred .to ceased work,
