Laurie Collins, a single man, 34, a j resident of Karahare was swept from the. rocks, while fishing at Matmkau Heads to-day, and drowned. A LIBEL ACTION. CHRISTCHURCH February 26. Tn the Supreme Court before Justice Chapman, and a common jury of 1-, Death and Co Ltd., Drapers Chrischurch, claimed £IOOO damages for alleged libel from Maurice Goldsboroimh Wellington, for publishing an article in “John Bull’s Register” of July 16th last., which it was claimed falsely ami malcionsly misrepresented facts as -to the origin of the plaintiff Company’s capital, and the nationality of its shareholders. After an hours ertirement the jury returned a verdict for one farthing damages. The question of costs was reserved. j

' The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) to-day gave judgment regarding; the will of the late Andrew Cnxey Hamilton, who left the residue of his estate of £25,605 to the Roman Catholic Church/ His Honour said that under the will the Church stood to benefit to the extent of £15.397, and commented on 'the fact- that none of the children were physically strong. Some, even with the legacy left under the will, would he unable to maintain themselves. T 1 is Honour was of opinion that certain gifts to the Church should stand and that tho increase to the widow should come out of the residue, lie further thought that each of the ten children should receive £BOO in addition to the sums allowed under the will, and that £3OO, accumulated interest should be divided among the children. An order was made that the total cost should come out-of the estate.
