Replying to ;l deputation of the Second Division League . Sir J. Allen denied that tire Financial, Assistance Board had asked whether a wife was working when considering the application for aid. He thought a shilling and sixpence per day enough for a married man at the front. He wanted them to' believe that he was honest when he framed the regulations and created , the Board. The scheme was introduced to do away with cases of hard ship. He wanted them to have confidence in the Board, and if it was proved that it was overworked 'he wopkl make such alterations as wqnld lx* i necessary. He could not promise to., increase the number of the Board because of the anomalies that would be created in varying decisions. He promised them that justice would be done. 1
A CORRECTION. WELLINGTON. This Day. In a message from Auckland on 1 " . ruary 6tli, th,e Court of Enquiry into charges against an officer in regards to the escape of German prisoners from Motuilii was inadvertently referred to as the court-martial. It was really a preliminary enquiry and not ,a court'martial. *
