POLLARD’S PICTURES.
On Monday evening at the Princess Theatre, Clara Kimball Young, the famous, star artist, and a wonderful cast of great players, will be featured in a masterpiece of film craft adapted from David Graham Phillip’s great book, “ The Price She Paid",” to be screened by Pollard’s. It is a wonderful story dealing with a modern marriage problem with an unsparing hand in scenes of splendour and prodigal taste. A marriage is arranged between Mildred, a poverty-stricken society lady’s daughter and General Siddall, a multi-millionaire. The bride soon discovers that while her husband will purchase for her anything she wants, so that he can make an impression upon the world with her beauty, he will not give her any money. This forces her to realise that she is 110 more than a piece of furniture bought and paid for. She leaves him and sets out for Paris, and deciding to have her voice trained for an operatic career .borrows the money from Stanley Baird, but meeting with Donald Keith, a young lawyer, and discovering that General Siddal’s first wife was living and confined in an asylum she declines to take any more money from she passes through the black valley of despair before she earns her right to'-life and love. It is claimed for “The Price She Paid” that it is better than “The, Common Law.”
The story, as may be seen from the plot, is a strong one. The star picture, with the exception of the Topical Budget, occupies the whole of the evening.
