A PUBLICAN’S LICENSE CANCELLED.

DUNEDIN, Eob. 12

At Queenstown, in the case of Inspector of Police v.' J. C. Knowles, licensee and owner of the Glenorchy Hotel, notice was served under the War Regulations on the defendant to show cause why his license should not be cancelled on all or any of the following grounds— Keeping his premises open on Sunday (convicted and fined £10); permitting treating (fined £2) ; selling liquor to a. person already in a state of intoxication (fined £2O and endorsmont). The decision was given to-day, tile license being cancelled as from March’ 9 th, the date of the quarterly meeting. Knowles will then have to submit the I name of an approved person to whom a j license for the house may be issued.

This was the first case of the kind in New Zealand under the War ItegulatWMLß.
