ROAD IN G THE WAITANGI BLOCK. (To the Editor.)
Sir, —Can yon inform if there is anyone looking after the, interests of Westland in our House of HepresenI tatives at present. It seems to me I that this part of the Dominion is getting, what is termed in sporting circles “a crook spin.” There is one matter which seems to me will bear enquiring into. Some time ago four sections were allotted by ballot in this district, the block being known as the Waitangi Block. It was stated at the time that a road which appeared on the plan, would be formed immediately to give the new settlers access to their holdings, and furthermore, the money to cover the work was handed over to the Public Works Department by the Lands Department then. Two of the new settlers have been working hard on their holdings all the year, 'and are in the position to supply milk to the Cheese Factory which is close at hand this coming season,, but there is no way of getting building material on to their sections or of carting milk to the factory. The road has not been starred, and these settlers have been put to many unnecessary inconveniences and expense in consequence. Now the cry of the Government is “ Get' on the Land and Produce.” Well, here are two good settlers ready to produce, with a Cheese Factory only 2-J- miles away, and the Government won’t make a few chains of road for which they have been holding the money for nearly twelve' months. I think you will agree that it is time something was done, and perhaps in the near future we may be able to find someone who will look after the affairs of Westland in the absence of onr Member who is away at the front. 1 am etc,, Wataroa. Wataroa, South Westland, 25/1/18. mmmmammmmammmmm ■
