MIKONUI TRAMWAY AND ROAD BRIDGE.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE. In a recent report to the County Council on the progress Tnatle with the erection of the Mikonui road and tramway bridge, Mr Wm. Millner, County Overseer, says : “ I have the honor to report that Mikonui road and tramway bridge is progressing in a satisfactory manner. To date eight piers of three piles in each pier have been driven* caps and corbels secured in position on each pier; stringers and girders placed and secured on five spans and girders only on two spans, two piers have the waling, diagonal bracing, cutwater and sheathing completed and the decking is in position on the first three spans from the northern side. All the timber at present used in the construction appears to be first class and the workmanship very creditable indeed. “ The recent heavy- flood docs not appear to have caused any scour around the piles in the main waterway : a slight scour is noticeable about the staging caused by the accumulation of debris; but this will fill in again when the staging is removed. The flood proved the stability of the structure, and alsc showed that the waterway will be ample as the stringers were feet above the high flood level so there need be no anxiety on that account “As the work progresses some idea can be gained of the design ol the completed structure which apart from being both serviceable and durable,.will have a very neat appearance.”
