The latest news from Mackay state; the town i. s in ruins. There is no ga: or water supply, and the town is undei police control. Heavy rain is still falling. The master of the steamer Arawatr reports he remained in the. vicinity, hut saw no sign of the town only a vast sheet of water. Tt is feared a calamity i.s of enormous magnitude has befallen Mackay with appalling loss of life.
