A meeting was bold at the I own Hall yesterday afternoon tlm Mayor presiding There were orosent. also:—-Mesdames Reynolds, Wood and ‘Butler, Messrs G rou f sky, Evans, Brook, Andrewes and Stewart (deputy hon. secretary). Apologies were received from Mrs Evans, Mr Callau and Sergt-Major Atkins.
A quantity of routine business was of in respect, to Surprise Packet Dav fixed for St Patrick’s Day. Mesdames Wood and Butler were appointed Jo divide tbe town into eight blocks, and on Tuesday fix canvassing for prizes for each divison. ' Messrs Evans and Andrewes were appointed to write to the country districts and outside mercantile firms trading in Westland for gifts of prizes. It Vnsresolved to invite the public generally, both town and country to contribute gifts for prizes. Tfc was mentioned small nuggets would bo specially welcome for the purpose; as also gifts of sewing, fancy wort, etc., from the women-folk Tt was agreed to secure premises in Re veil '.Street- as a depot to receive gifts aiid to sell envelopes, the wish being expressed to, open the premises on February 2nd. Tt was reported that 2,000. envelopes had been circulated already and were meeting with a ready sale. Tt was decided to msikc a further issue of envelopes next-, week,»and push the sale of same. Miss AT. Reynolds (hon. Seety) Air Andrewes' (Treasurer), and Air G. ■A Perry (Chairman), were appointed to open an account at the National Bank, and deposit receipts for the sale of tickets as they came to hand.

March 18tb (St Day) which will he a public holiday. * A gala time will he arranged for. and the prizes, will be distributed -throughout the day at the Town Hall. Various functions will be held to attract and entertain the public, and the juveniles will be specially catered for during,, the day with continuous pictures, and other attractions.
Tt was reported the local societies were assisting- including the Hibernian Society ' nmL Druid’s Lodge. \ny additional help from local organisations will be welcomed as tbe effort,-is to raise £SOO Jfor the (following patifwAic ohlepts, ■namely:—West-land Patriotic Fund, Lady Liverpool Fund. Red Cross. Fund and Y.M.C.AI, Trench Comforts Fund.
