MILITARY AGE QUESTION.
AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. CHRISTCHURCH January IS.
There is an impression abroad among reservists that a man whose age is 44 would automatically he classed at C2 by the Military. Service Boards, and would not have to go into camp According to a statement made by officer of the Defence Department, this [impression is wrong.
“The question which lias been raised is. briefly this” said the officer. “Take a balloted man whose age was 1:1 if lien drawn, or a volunteer of the same age when he enlisted; if either became I! either previoues to his leaving New Zealand, lie would he thrown out automatically as being over age and he placed in the C2 class? The answer is that, if a man proves medically fity lie will go to camp. The decision rests on the result of the medical examination It is only when a man becomes 44 prior to being drawn in the ballot, or in the case of a volunteer, prior to being attested, that be would be classed automatically as a C2 man.”
