LONDON December 20. Rome wireless. —Snow is falling abundantly throughout Italy. Prince Conrad’s offensive in the Asiago Plateau is considered to have failed. Latest attacks have been fatal for the Austrians.

Conrad marched his troops not to the attack but to the slaughter under showers of shells from hundreds of Italian guns. Approximately twenty thousand were sacrificed uselessly on Christmas Eve.

The impression created by the attack was disastrous, even at the Vatican, where such a crime was unexpected from a very Catholic Austria.
