CANADIAN ELECTIONS. BIG UNIONIST VICTORY. (Reuter’s Telegram.) (Received this day at 12.30 a.m.) OTTAWA. December 17. The Conscription Unionists win every I Province except Quebec. They have a majority of 50. TO HELP THE SOLDIERS. MINISTERS’ POSITIONS. i ßeceived Tins Pav at 11,20. a.m.) OTTAWA, Dec. 18th. The Canadian press, with the exception of that of Quebec, welcome the rcsult"of the election, as a great moral upheaval of the national conscience. The issue was one between a policy of wait and see, while soldiers died, or of sending immediate aid. v Canada has answered overwhelmingly, that se will help her soldiers, therefore upholding the proud position of the ‘greatest Overseas Dominion. The last return show that only three of Sir AT. Laurier’ s supporters were elected in West Ontario. ( Blondon, Postmaster-General and Scvignv. Minister of Inland Revenue were defeated in Quebec Province. The other Ministers were elected. Mr. Foster obtained a record majority ol'Lt.ooo. PRESS COMMENT. (R'ceiveP ''Lie Da-’ at noon.) The New York evening papers are jubilant over Sir R. Borden’s victory as “another evidence of the colonies determination to throw their utmost resources against Germany.
PROHIBITION IN AMERICA. A CORRECTION. (Received This Dav at noon.) NEW YORK December 18. Three-fourths not two-third,. of the States must ratify the U.S.A. Congress Prohibition measure, within seven years, if twelve or more states adopt prohibition it will become effective. The “New York World” describes it “Prohihiton by Prussian Methods.” (Received This Dav at noon.) WASHINGTON, December 18. The Senate, which adopted prohibition last year, concurred with House resolutions.
