A steamer leaves Auckland to-morrow night for Greymouth direct with general cargo, being the last steamer coming direct to Greymouth from Auckland before Xmas. The Henri French Circus Company is continuing its successful round of visits to the various centres. The Company appears at the Arahura Valley to-night ) and to-morrow (Tuesday) evening, will give one of their popular ~ entertainments at Three Mile Hall. An acknowledgment, with thanks, has been received from the Y.M.C.A. , headquarters, Wellington, for the re- ’ mi tlance of £6 7 S sent forward last week for the trench comforts’ fund. The remittance to-day for the same purpose, totalled £3 4s 9d, made up as follows:—Miss Potts, donation, 10s 6d; half proceeds of juvenile gift sale per Misse s Paseoe and Thompson £2 ! 14s 3d. I Mr. Grimmond wa's in Christchurch i week attending the monthly meeting of the Canterbury Education Board. He crossed over also to Wellington, and attended a sitting of the Advisory Board of the Associated Patriotic Societies. Tha s week he is visiting North Canterbury for the purpose of inspect- ' ing the schools in the area he repreI ' se nt 9on the Board. Mr Grimmond hopes to return to Row on Saturday ' next.
