POSITION REVIEWED
A SUCESSFITL EXPERIMENT. f AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] LONDON November 28. A high British Military .authority reviewing the position, says the fight at Cambrai was a successful experiment The e n emy was forced to employed fifty percent more divisons than we; hen.ee we are -entitled to class the battle as a great- success . A word of caution is necessary about loose talk regarding the breaking through and the loss of Cambrai. There were no definite objectives in this move. Wo intended to go as far as possible and established ourselves a good deal further than Marshal Haig expected. We did not employ large masses, hence there i s no justification for the loose talk about stopping the Italian crisis, this being now definitely passed. Tt was due solely to the Italian army, which checked the enemy before the arrival of the Allied assistance The Germans went to Italy because Austria was shaky and in want of help, and not to make a great attack If they had intended to make a great attack they would have brought more troops to exploit success. There was no sign of great German reinforcements because sbe was clearly unable to send them . Referring to Palestine be says probably Jerusalem may not fall without another battle for which we have to get an army together, and bring up fresh troops, gun s and supplies.
