At the meeting of the Westland County Council on Wednesday, the following report was read from Overseer Millner regarding the erection of Mikonui bridge now in hand:—“l have the honor to report having visited and inspected Mikonni Tramway and Traffic Bridge. The work is progressing fairly well, four piers of piles being driven to depths averaging from fourteen to sixteen feet, three piers are capped and hardwood corbels and stringers are in positon on two piers. It is intended to complete the four piers and place the decking in position to allow the pile driving engine to he placed and worked on the decking of the completed spans where it will be safe from floods. I am very well satisfied with the material used, also the method of construction, the two outer piles in each pier being driven on a rake of one in eight will increase the stability of the piers. When the whole of the work is completed I cm confident the bridge will be a credit to the Company and the Local Body responsible for its erection.”

On the strength of the Chairman’s eloquence, the letter of the Association was simply received.
