POLLARD’S PICTURES.
THURSDAY NIGHT
Clara Kimball Young, the greatest emotional actress of the cinema screen will be starred in the great World’s picture, “ The Rise cf Susan” to be presented by Pollard’s Pictures at the Princess Theatre on Thursday evening. This remarkably beautiful screen artist will be seen in a leading role that shows the queen of the screen at the height of her powers as a performer. She plays the part of a penniless shop girl, who has been enticed, by a society dame to present herself as the Countess of Walrech at a society gathering. At the function she meets the much sought for catch,” Gordon Claverihg, who falls in love with her. It is then she forgets that she is not a vonn(ess and encourages his admiration until •she realises it is impossible to become liis wife unless he is socially ruined. But the venemous taunts of some of her friends who are aware of the deception compel her to make a confession of her guilt before a host of horror-stricken guests. The shop girl’s great sacrifice of love is sadly seen in her misjudgement of the man who had loved her as a Countess and may still love her as Susan the shop girl. Rich, modern house settings and wonderful costumes are special features of stage craft and costumier’s art in this stupendous production. A varied selection of subjects comprising a Topical Budget, “ Pair Exchange,” a Vim comedy, and “The French before Verdun ” a war topical, will support the star feature.
