FINE DASH OF THE ANZACS. HOT WORK AT RAMLEH. [AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] LONDON November 25. Mr. Massey reports: Our mounteds have given a brilliant account of themselves during the past three weeks. There have been old time cavalry charges across the open country each re suiting in a glorious success. The Australians and New Zealanders advancing on Ramleh and Lydda from the south-west met considerable opposition; but pressed on, routing the enemy until they reached Themat. Here the Turks were reinforced by two divisions, and made a’ most determined counter-attack against the New Zealanders. The Tulrks, Running .very quickly behjind a somewhat stir on g .gunfire got within fifteen yards of the line attacking with bombs and rifles along their whole line. The Auckland men and some Wellington Mounted Rifles rushed forward with bayonets. * T]he Aucklanders and Wellingtons met the enemy with tremendous force and smashed up the counter-attack com j.letely . The Turks broke and fled leaving over four hundred dead. The result of the cavalry’s work went on ceaselessly, despite two, periods of dry scorching wind. One of the most notable incidents prior to the capure of. Ramleh whs the Australian Light Horse galloping over the trenches at Beersheba. On three other occasions the Yeomanry Brigade charged in the open against gun and machine gun and rifle fire. Mr. Massey pay s a tribute to the find work of the British Yeomanry generally.
