WELI.IONTOX, Nov 19 Inquiries made by a a reporter at the Base Records office to-day regarding the statement that' Eggers alias Mac -Mahon bad enlisted in the Main .Body of tbe Expeditionary Force, ascertained that there wa s no record there of a man named William Frederick Eggers or a man with a similar name having joined the Main Body A deserter would not lie imprisoned on Somes Island. Detective-Sergeant Connolly was in Hokitika yesterday in connection with the Runanga tragedy, gathering together shreds for use at the trial of Eggers.
