The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting was concluded in brilliant weather, with a large attendance. The tote handled £46,326, making £l4l Mo TOs for the meeting, against £175,697 for the four days last year. Results:
.M iddletmi Hurdles : —Don Frnncisco 1, Cast Iron 2, Naupatn 3. Won by two lengths. Time 3.25 4-5. Apprentices’ Tlamlicap : —Golden Prince 1, Spangle 2, Placid 3. Won by a long head. Time 1.28 3-5. Spring Nursery.—Demagogue -, Finmark 2, Pontoon 3. Won by a length. Time 61 1-5. Metropolitan Handicap: Teka 1, Multiply 2, Johnny Walker 3. Won by two lengths. Time 2.32 4-5. Avon Welter.-- Birkenyale 1, Zuland 2, Bariform 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.11 4-5. Stead Memorial Stakes: —Desert Gold 1, Northern 2, The only starters. Won by nearly two hundred yards. The Racing Club’s Spring Meeting was held in fine weather, with the course in excellent condition. There was a large attendance. The tote handled £41,401 agaiinstf£33,263 tor the corresponding day of last year, an increase of £8,141. Results: Maiden Hurdles: —Con 1, White Sox 2, Gleudalough 3. Mon by hall a lt(ngt[h. Time 2.53. Carbinoss and Simple Sam fell. Caber Foagh dislodged his rider. E Warm,-, who sustained a broken collarbone.
Great Northern Guineas: —Vagabond 1, Bonham 2. Ratlilin 3. Won pulling up by five lengths. Time 1.40. Hobson Handicap:— Meltonio 1, Fabriquetto 2, Si-op T. Won comfortably by two lengths. Time 1.17 2-5. Welcome Stakes:—lnformal 3, Hinomaru 2, Shining Light 3. Won easily by half a length. Time 1.2. City Handicap:—Mullinger 1, Tontore 2. Chortle and Sir Ralph a dead heat, 3. Won bv half a length, the dead heaters a nook away. Time 2.8 8-5. Oneliunga Steeplechase:—Marion 1, The Channel 2, Collector 3. Won by eight lengths. Time 6.5?. Results: — Bateman Stakes: —Pah King , Modesto 2, Cosmos 3. Won by a neck-. Time I.4<R. Flemington Stakes: —Almoner 1, Peat 2, Galix 3. Twelve starters. Verdun led into the course proper, but Almoner, already ’handy, put in a fast run and beaded Verdun at the distance, and won by two lengths. lime 1.14§. V.R.C. Handicap:—Fortune Hunter 1, Ranger 2, Fantaria 3. Ten started. Won by a neck. Time 3.2. Fisher Plate Wallace Isinglass 1, Cotinge 2, Thana 3. Won in a great finish by a neck. Thana twelve lengths away. Time 2.33. Steeplechase:—Murrangang 1, Bricks 2, Highlad Clan 3. A mile from home Booligal lost lii s rider, and Tinto pulled up and Sylvan Lass fell. Mon by 15 lengths. Miser was the only other finisher. Time 6.10.
Final Handicap:—Dench Rail 1. Loom 2, Rosana 3. Won by halfa length. Time 2.16.
