ANOTHER BIG FIRE
CANTERBURY HALL BURNEDVALUABLE ORGAN LOST. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. COPYRIGHT.] ' CHRISTCHUCH, This Day. Canterbury Hall block of buildings, ! inoludihg His Maesty’s Theatre and two smaller halls, were completely destroyed by fire last night. The main hall is of special interest to citizens, as it housed the great electric organ, purchased for the International Ex.hibtion of 1906-7, and subsequently presented to the city. The organ is valued by the Council at about £6,000, and is insured for £3,750. ■ Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s offices were also de-
stroyed, together with a valuable library, but the books and records were saved. ■ The building was twice offered to the city as a Town Hall, hut the citi- ; zens / refused to sanction the purchase, j For some years His Majesty’s Theatre was used for Hayward’s Pictures, but it was leased this year to Fuller's, and lias since been used a s a Vaudeville Theatre.
