POLLARD’S PICTURES. A BIG PICTURE, MONDAY

.“Managerial Notice,” so runs the advertisement of Pollard’s Pictures in this issue. This refers to the presentation on Monday evening at the Princess Theatre by the Selznic Warwick Corporation of the great detective story that has no peer, “The Argyle Case.” This is no ordinary detective drama, but a modern story of criminal investigation, crowded with thrilling incidents and clever up-to-date devices for the trapping of criminals. Every wonderworking modern marvel for the detection of crime is seen at work in this great play. Robert Warwick, a leader amidst leading actors, is the star in his corporation’s first picture, and as “ Asche Hayton ” gives a splendid performance. Elaine Ham-mer-stein, grand-daughter of the famous actor, Oscar Hammerstein, is the leading star actress, who plays opposite Robert Warwick, and to use the slang of the picture studios, “ she screens like a million dollars.” Another charming artist in the cast is Gazelle Mareke, the siren of the play. A rare and charming love story is interwoven with the story of the tragedy. Shadow photography and wonderful darkened room effects .are used with great success in the drama. The detectaphone and the dictograph are two of the modern cdectrical devices used in tracking down the murderer of: John Argyle. The only woman in the house the night he was shot dead was his ward Mary, and because he had that day altered his will in her favour ihe police were after the girl.
