'Charley was a very bright lad and a credit to any family. He was most keen to go off to the war and do his duty manfully. He went away full of spirit, and lias passed through the rigors of the great campaign for over three years. Mrs. £L H. Chapman, of Hokitika is a. sister, as also Miss ABvrno, employed at McKay and Sons. Unfortunately Mrs. Byrne is at pre j sent rather seriously ill at Christchurch I and her two daughters are with her for I the time being. Mrs Byrne came front Wellington this week to undergo an operation. Mr. T. V. Byrne is employed in tlie legal Department of the Public Trust Office in Wellington. The family have a heavy burden of trouble and there will he much sympathy felt and expressed for them in their great trial. PRIVATE H. F. CLEESON. Mr C. Gleeson, Greymouth, has rcoeived ,advice that his mephew, (Private Harold Frederick Gleeson, only son of Mr F. Glee Son, Havelock North, had Vboen ‘-killed in action. The deceased soldier, who was years of age. was horn in Greymouth. He enlisted at Havelock in the 23rd Reinforeements, joining the artillery. SERGT. J. LALOLLI . Sergeant Jack Lalollie, who enlisted at Runaiiga, has made the supreme sacrifice, having been killed in action in France on October 21th. Deceased was a. most popular, young man about 23 veals of age, and was a clerk in the railway department and was stationed at Runnnga when he enlisted. SERGEANT ARTHUR McJLROY Sergt. Arthur Mcllroy, fourth of Mr. and Mrs W. J.,Mcllroy of Greymouth, lias been killed in action. Coming so soon after the death of their son, Captain George Mcllrow, killed in action on October 12th, the sorrowing relatives have been dealt a severe blew and a double measure of sorrow. The two Irotliers enlisted together apd had been throughout in close touch with each other, as soldiering life goes on the Western front. Tlie deceased, who was about 30 years of age, was a native of Kumara.

CORPORAL JOHN LEO SAUNDERS. Corporal John Leo Saunders has been killed in a action. He was a son of Mr. Timothy Saunders, of, William Streiet, Greytnouthi, and up to the time of enlisting was employed as a law clerk of Messrs Guinness and Kiteliingham. The deceased was of a ouiet and unassuming disposition and deservedly popular with all who had the pleasure of bis acquaintance. He was married to Miss Mussen shortly bdfore leaving for the front, and was about 25 years of age.

RIFLEMAN JOSPEPH. T. OKEY. Airs. J. Okey of Preston Bond, Greymouth has received word that her youngest son, Rifleman Joseph 1. Okev ins killed in action on October 12th. The late Rifleman Okey left with the 17tli. Reinforcements and prior to leaving these shores was engaged in the sawmilling industry. The deceased soldier was about 30 years of age and was well and favourably knowr throughout the Coast. Besides his mother ho leaves, three , brothers and four sisters . PRIVATE AY. CARRUTHERS.
