LAND AND CLEARING SALE.

What must be regarded as one of the largest and most important property and clearing sales yet held on this Coast was conducted at AVataroa on last Friday by Messrs W. Jeffries and Co., when the farm lands, live and dead stock, in the estate of the late Joseph Bui-rough wore submitted to public auction. Though the elements were unfavourable there was a very large attendance of buyers and as will he seen from, the prices below they constitute a record. Much interest was centred in the farm lands sold in two lots,' and competition was keen for same. The total area! of the lands offered was 1269 acres 22 porches. Lot 1 comprised the Homestead Block of 133 acres of Freehold with 5 roomed residence thereon, outbuildings, dip, shearing shed yards etc, together with Occupation License of 98',- acres on the opposite side of the river Waitangi to the Homestead. Bidding opened for the 232 acres at £6 per acre and in spirited increases of os per acre, reached £9, from ilienee in 2s fid increases in reached £lO 7s fid per acre at which figure, it was knocked down to Air. J. Collett, of Ahvtain-

Lot 2 comprised Renewable Lease of 237 acres and L.I.P of 200 acres, together --with two miscellaneous Leases of S(M) and 200 acres respectfully in' all 1137 acres. Bidding opened at £BOO for the lot and at £llOO, it was passed to Air. James Nolan who eventually purchased it at £l3ll. Two freehold sections of half acre in the Township of Okaritn were sold to Air. N. Friend for £43.

The stock were yarded in tip top condition and sold well. The following prices were made :

SHEEP.— q 3 fat- ewes and wethers at £2 3s : 47 fat hoggets at 39s ; 98 mix ed ewes and wether hoggets at 34s fid ; 56 ewes with lambs at £2 6s j 84 ewes and lambs at £2 0s Oil; I stud ram at £l4 14s: 1 ram at £2 17s fid; HORSES.—I back at £l4; 1 aged draught at £3; 1 filly at £fi; 1 colt £5.

CATTLE :—l9 fab bullocks at £ls 17s fid: 11 fat heifers at £l3 10s; 11 ditto it £l3 7s fid : 10 forward steers at £l3; l store heifer s at £8 10s. A large quantity of farm implements mid dead stock made excellent prices and 20 shares in the AVataroa Dairy Factory made 19s each. At. the conclusion of the above sale tin* following stock was also sold 6 steers and heifers for Mr. Jno. Collett at £5 7 S fid ; 8 steers at £7 12s fid a nil 5 heifers at £5 ss; for Air. Jas. Friend.

At the AVataroa Sales on Thursday last Messrs AV. Jeffries and Co., sold bv auction on account of Air. H. U Adamson. Renewable Lease of 138 acres at Hari Hart to Air. Jno. Butler for £lO5. Later in the day the same firm sold on account Air Mat Nolau (on active service') the lease of his 194 acres for 12 months from date and situated on the AVataroa Flat at 14s per week.
