THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Oct, 29. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 on Saturday afternoon. The Native Land Laws Amendment, and the Washing-Up Bill were put through all stages. The Reserves and Other Laws Disposal Enabling Bill, dealing with matters affecting, various districts, received from the House was put through all stages, with amendments. The Council adjourned at 8.45 p.m. until 11 o’clock on Monday morning.

WELLINGTON, Oct. 29 Tlie Council met at 2.30. p.m. In committee on the Statutes Law .Amendment- Bill, on the motion of Sir Francis Bell, clause 19, relating to the suspension of awards to facilitate the employment of disabled soldiers, was struck out. A new clause was added allowing for the detention in police stations of persoas sentenced to imprisonment for less than seven days, or where there is no police gaol or prison, detention in a police station for not more than seven days, if the persons are awaiting trial. The other clauses were agreed to and progress was recorded on the Bill. THE TEACHERS’ CLAUSE. The Council decided to adhere to its amendment made to the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Bill, and appointed Sir Francis Bell and Hons. Carson, Moore and Ban- As managers to meet the House and report. IN MEMORY OF LATE HON. BEEHAN. A motion of appreciation of the late Hon. Bekhan was pa'ssod, and the Council adjourned for the afternoon as a token of respect.
