— 1 WATAROA STOCK SALE.
The Annual Spring Sale at the above yards was held on Thursady 25th inst. in most unfavourable weather conditions, which did not tend to improve tlie appearance of the stock 1 yarded. Neverheless, prices for good stores remained firm, especially for the two and a half steer ß from south. Fat cattle sold equal to Arahura prices and yearlings to eighteen months also sold well. There was a representative gathering of West Coast buyers and competition was brisk throughout* the sale. The yarding comprised 316 sheep and 276 head of cattle.
Messrs W. Jeffries and Co., sold the following sheep—On account Mr M Patrick 96 fat forward ewes and wethers at 28s; 99 forward ewes and wethers at 255. One ram at 37 s 6d; one ditto at 27s 6d; one ditto at 20s; On account of Mr. W. H. Chinn 47 fresh hoggets at 29 s 6d; 47 ditto at 28s 6d; 24 hoggets at 34s 6d. CATTLE. On account Messrs Nolan Bros 25 steer R from £l3 15s to £l2; 5 heifers at £8 17s 6d. On account Mr. W. Gunn 21 steers from £7 to £5 6s; 1 stag at £l2 7s 6d. On account Mr. H. Hevledt 4 steers from £l3 5s to £5 and 3 heifers from £9 15s to £B. On account Messrs Ferguson Bros 17 steers at £7 and 20 heifer s at £6 4s. On account Mr. A. Cooper 4 heifers from £7 12a 6d to £4 2s 6d; 1 steer alt £4 2 S 6d. On account Mr. H. H. Adamson 7 dry cows from £7 3s to £5 7s 6d. 7 S 6d. On account Kautau Ten alii 1 steer at £7. On account Messrs Ritchie Bros. 24 f.f bullocks from £ls 2s 6d to £l2; 4 steers at £8 10s; 15 heifers from £8 17 6d to £7; one fat cow £l6 15s; 12 forward cows from £l2 2s 6d to £lO 10s I dry cow £8; 1 stag at £l4 10s; 1 ditto £l2. On account Messrs W. H. Harris and Soils 20 f.f steers from £l2 2s 6d to £7 12s 6d. On account Mr. W. H. Chinn 6 heifers from £8 to £4 17s 6d; 2 dry cows at £8: 7 steers from £5 10s to £4 17s 6d; 1 stlag at £7 16s. On account Mr. C. Lucas 2 dry cows at £B.
Messrs G. W. Moss and Co. sold on account Messrs Nolan Bros. 30 f.f steers from £l3 2s 6d to £l2 7s Bd. On account Messrs W H. Harris and Ron 10 forward steerß at £lO 12s 6d; 10 ditto at £l3.
PRESTON YARDS SALE. The weather conditions of last week militia ted 1 againstl sljopk coming forward for the combined fat and store cattle sale at Greymoutli. There was an unusually large number of farmers and butchers in attendance and disappointment whs felt at the comparatively small yarding. The greatest disappointment was evidenced through the non-arrival of 'the pedigree stud stock from Canterbury which missed through bad weather on the Canterbury side. There was the keenest possible demand for beef and prices were the highest realised at these yards.
Mark Sprot and Co. report having sold as follows: —On account of Mr W. Searle, Hari Hard, 3 fine cows at £l7 17s od, 3 at £ls 10s, 2 at £ll 10s, 2 unfinished do. at £9 ss. On account of Mr H. Diedrich. Kokitahi: T prime bullock at £22 ss. 1 at £2O, 3 nt. £2l 2s 6d, 4 at £2O 2s 6d. 1 at Tl." 16s, 3 at £l9 15s, 3 nt £l7 15s, 3 heifers nt £ls 2s Od, 1 at £l7 15s. 1 stag at £9 10s, T bullock at Cl 6 15s. 1 ><t vm ss. 10 prime bullocks were sold r>rivately nt current rates for frirwsnsi delivery. On account of Messrs R.y;>n and Sou, Rotomnnu: -10 fat sheen nt 33s 3d to 31s 3d.
