.BATTLE OF THE ANCRE
MONDAY NIGHT
Under an arrangement with the New Zealand Government the Y.M.C.A. are exhibiting throughout the Dominion a series of war films, the first of which is entitled “ The Battle of the Ancre,” which has been specially taken under an arrangement with the British Government, and we have the guarantee that the film is absolutely genuine. The “ Battle of the Ancre ” is a ’living and up-to-date compendium of the war “ from our side of the fence.” At the commencement is shown a series of views descriptive of the actual events of the troops advances into the scarred land of Flanders, on which the eyes of all the woild is set. Here are to be seen the “ tanks ” the uglj 7 , slow, ponderous land battleships, which have done so great and effective work. The “ Times ” referring to this British Government’s official film says : “ Undoubtedly the best war picture ever screened.” The enthusiastic approval of book press and public at Aucklaud, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin have amply confirmed this opinion. As a result of the enterprise of the Y.M.C.A. efforts, the picture will be shown at the Princess Theatre on Monday next, 29th inst. and the entire net proceeds will be devoted to several Patriotic Funds, including comforts for our fighting men in trench and camp, wounded and convalescent soldiers in N.Z. and abroad. One quarter of the proceeds will be banded over to the Mayor in each town where the picture is shown for tlie benefit of tlie Bed Cross Fund as he may determine. Every portion of the picture is intensely interesting, and should attract large attendances at each town exhibited, especially in consideration of the fact that the proceeds go to such worthy objects as the Y.M.C.A. Trench Fund. Seats may be reserved at Mrs Browne’s, the prices of admission being dress circle 2/, stalls 1/, reserved seats 2/6, children Halfprice to all parts.
