(Received »..;■) The "Daily Telegraph’s” Petrograd correspondent says according to Russian newspapers, the town of Vendon ■was the scehe of the ghastly massacre of Germans. During the Russian retreat from Riga while the last detachments were, traversing the town, a rumour spread that German residents wore firing at, and bombing the troops from windows, whereupon rioters mostly civilians systemtically attacked the German houses, and exterminated every German, not sparing women or children. The rabble committed every imaginable outrage. The town during the orgies was under a heavy bombardment by the Germans, on one hand, and the Russians on the other. The Germans used gas shells'and’ poisonous fumes, killing both plunderers and intended victims. |

The Sailors’ delegate sent by the Fleet Committee to the Baltic Islands to watch the military operations, who was prisonered has escaped. His reports show that ;tho Russian troops were showing a deplorable attitude the Germans being aided bv espionage which is raihpart in the islands the inhabitants signalling by spreading sheets to guide the German airmen.
