The excess of danger was attr'buted to the recent raising of tlie outfall of the lake carried out for mining purposes. Mr. F. B. Powell was present by invitation and explained that the rainfall had been abnormal last month, and in the hilly country was more copious than where high records were taken. The Hokitika river was exceptionally high at the same time. After discussing the matter it was resolved that a sub-committee visit Lake Kanieri with Mr. Powell and discuss the matter on the ground.
