At the Princess Theatre to-night William Desmond and Margery Wilson will be featured in the Triangle Company great “ Scarlet Letter” play ’“The Last of the Ingrams.” Tire story tells of a conflict between the narrow ideas of the descendants oi the early Puritans and a man and woman seeking to live down past sins. Struggling bravely in her little cottage with only a small strip of land to offer her sustenance she bravely faces the jeers and contumely of the self-righteous. Keeping'close watch over him the girl teaches the last of a noble line J > face, the wreck of her fortunes, abandon his old courses and start life as a new man. The villagers conspire to drive both Jules and Mercy from the village and it is in the fight with the villagers that William Desmond as Jules rises to '•.the height of his great dramatic power. His acting is full of fiery strength tempered with supreme .pathos for the girl, who through innocence erred and paying a life of repentance and trial is driven from the village because of her endeavors to make good. The “ Bitter Truth ” the iEtli chapter oi Gloria’s Romance features Gloria. (Billie Burke) slowly realising the infamy ol her murdered lover ami the dangers attending the prosecution of the murderer.
