FRIDAY, Oct. 5. The fortnightly meeting of thirri. Council was held at 7.40 p.m.—Present Messrs H. M. Coulson (Deputy-Mayor) G. Wood, 0. H. Blank, A. S. J. Preston, R. M. King, J. KingA. and H. A. Thompson. Leave of absence was granted to the
Mayor (Mr. Perry). The minutes were read and confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORESPONDENCE.
From the Prime Minister noting the committee’s protest against charges made about the carrying out of the jury system on the West Coast and stating their recommendations as to appointments to the Legislative Council would receive careful attention —Received.
From Minister of Finance, Wellington expressing thanks for part taken in making War Loan such a decided success. —Received.
From Ifawera Borough Council thanking manager for particulars supplied of working of the abattoir. —Received. . REPORTS. From Treasurer reporting receipts £lO3 10s fid; payments £4O 2s debit balance £3 0 S lid.—Received. Accounts amounting to £413 15s 8d were passod for payment. From Manager of Abattoirs, reporting for period from Sept. 3. to 29th, there were examined 13 cows, 46 bullocks, 168 sheep, 8 pig 8 2 cows. Condemned, nil. Fees for period £3B 17s 9d.—Received. From Overseer reporting on progress of works in hand.—Received The Public Works Committee were authorised to cut a drain off Haast street, into Tudor street, to relieve water pressure in Fitzherbert street. On the motion of Mr, Blank it was resolved to procure a lawn mower for the reserve. The Council rose at 8.5 p.m.
