ROSS LIVE SUPPLY.

PROGRESS REPORT

The West Coast Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Dime Company has been registered. Reports are being obtained in regard to the. best machinery and methods of treating the company’s deposits at Ross. A sample of the stone has been burnt at the Brunner works under the supervision of Mr R. Alison, who is well pleased with the result. The stone burns excellently, clearly demonstrating that the Ross lime when so treated is free from coarseness, and will i>ass through any distributing ma' chine. 1 When all reports are to hand the roniparty will proceed to erect kilns and instal machinery, and it .is anticipated they will be able to place the burnt article on the market in two months’ time. Messrs «U D. Lynch, T. E. Coates and R. Alison recently

visited the Capo Foulwind lime kilns with a view to reporting on tho methods of treatment adopted in the Buller district. In this latter connection, Air A. W. Upjohn, of Ross, is at present visiting Canterbury and Otago works scouring data, and will report the result of his mission to a meeting of directors to be held at an early date. In a private letter Air Upjohn wrote at Totara (Otago) Miss AfcDonald has just finished installing a crusher and pulveriser and runs two successful kilns. He found tho manager at Dunbaok (North Otago) very obliging from whom he secured much valuable information. At Dunbaok three kilns are working, one having an output of 80 tons a day. The gas kiln was idle for want of men and cannot copo with orders. Ono plant secured by Air Upjohn, with slight alterations, can he niftde to produce six or eight tons a day.
