KAIOURA FLOODS.

BRIDGES AND CULVERTS DAMAGED. Kaikovca, Sept 1-f With the exception of the Halfway House bridge, every bridge and cnl-, vert approach on the Coast Road between Kaikouna and the Conway River has been damaged, in some instances considerably. The woist case is in Oaro, where both approaches have almost completely* gone hut* with the river going down motor cars can proceed. The Ka.lmta.ra bridge has subsided several inches in one place though the slips are comparatively* trifling. It is roughly* estimated that the damage from**-Kaikonra to the Conway amounts to £‘looo. The shortage of labour will mean some delay in restoration. The damage to the Kaikonra section of the Waian Road is inconsiderable, except on the three-mile section from Nome’s to. the Conway* River, along which there are seventeen slips of considerable magnitude, and various washouts, gutting the road tremendously*.

In the Hawkswood Bend, of the Conway* River the road has been almost completely washed away, and on. other parts very seriously damaged. ‘ Car communication with Blenheim will probably be resumed on Tuesday.

Ten nAI a quarter indies of rain fell on tbe Kincaid Downs in fortyeight hours.
