Bean, vicar of St. Mary’s Addington on Thursday completed his twenty-five years of service as Chaplain with tho New Zealand Engineers, having received his appointment on September 13tli, 1892. At the last snioke-oh of the No. 1 Field Company, New Zealand Engineers, Captain J. Midgley presiding, tho Rev. Cannon Bean was the recipient of a handsome study chair from the members of the company in commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of liis association with the corps. The presentation was made by Atajor .Tones, and ox-Captain Dougail, on behalf of the members of the comi pany, both speakers referring ; n eulogi istic terms to the services rendered by tho Chaplain. Tho chair bore the fol- • lowing inscription on a silver plate:—“Presented by No. 1 Field Company, N.Z. Engineers to tlio Rev. Canon W. S. Bean, ‘Our Chaplain for twentyI five years.’ 1892—September 13— 1917.”
