The hearing of the charges against Fitg/.erald and M’Williams of attempting to defraud Henry Martindale and others of £975, and conspired to defraud, was continued this afternoon and resulted in botji accused being committed for trial. Bail in the sum of £IOO and two sureties of £SO was allowed in each of the eases. AN INQUEST. AUCKLAND. This- Day. At the inquest on Margaret Davis who died at the hospital from poisoning, Mr. Fraser, S. M., Coroner, found that dentil was caused by drinking spirits of Salts . Ho said the deceased’s husband made contradictory statements to the police, which gave rise to a certain suspicion, hut his statements were corroborated by other witnesses. There was 'nothing to show the parties lived unhappily, but Davis had been grossly negligent in placing spirits of salt in a cupboard with spirits of nitre, in a similar bottle, bearing a similar label. AUCKLAND OFFENCES. /> AUCKLAND, Sept. 12.
