A flood of unprecedented height occurred last night. ■ Lynll Creek overflowed its banks and the bridge in tlie main street was submerged to a depth" of lPin. Business premises on the lower side of the street were flooded to a considerable depth. Ism-lying lands are everywhere under water. .• Heavy floods are reported from Wairui district . There* are three washouts on the Cheviot railway line. The rain in North Canterbury was the heaviest experienced for years. At Monclip Hills, six inches of rain fell in 12 hours. There has been a great loss in early* lambs throughout the district. The roads are seriously damaged in all directions. The roads from Parnassus to Kaikoura are impassable and the coach service has stoDDed running.
