SUBSTANTIAL BALANCE FOB RETURNED SOLDIERS CLUB ROOMS.
A meeting of tile workers in connection with tin: recent bazaar ln'iil in tin* Princess Theatre in aid of the Returued Soldiers C'lnh room was held at the Overseas Club ltooms last night. Mr, Evans (president) presided over a small attendance.
M isses CaHey and llallidav (joint lion, secretaries) and Mr. A. A. Andrewes (lion. Treasurer) submitted the following statement of the aeeonnts : - - Receipts:—Fancy Goods Stall, £<L/r S jit; tea' rooms £lB/4 11; High School stall, £23/16/11 ; Returned Soldiers stall, £l9/0/6; Doors £lB/19/0; Donation (Dr. Holloway) £1; .Baffle of nuggets £25: total £221/0/11.
Expenses :—Bent of 'llioatre. £7/10 , Printing and advertising £3/1 < 6 ; Carting and drag hire £3; Timber and labor for stall etc.. £l/17/0; Sundries 9/-; total £lO/13/6. The credit balance therefore stood at £204/7/5. The Chairman commented that the return was highly gratifying, and ;reflected great credit on the worker*. There might he one or two small accounts to come in, hut there would be over £2OO for the object in view and the amount had now been deposited at the Hokitika Savings Bank. The func-tion-had been conducted most economically, and the public had the satisfaction of knowing that their contributions to a worthy fund would reach the object they desired specially to.assist.
The statement was received and adopted and the accounts passed for payment.
Tile chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to all who had contributed 1 to so satisfactory a result. Me eulogised the workers who had devoted weeks to Ihe preparation of the goods for the stalls which gave so Handsome a profit there not being any expense to the fund for the purchase of goods or material. Mr. Evans, said they were, also much indebted to Miss NaiicokiivolU and her pupils for the excellent entertainment given and which drew ro large an attendance; also- to the Overseas Orchestra for their pleasing help, as. well as to many other ladies and gentlemen (including the workers at the refreshment rooms) who had helped in other directions. Air. Androwos seconding.the motion, which was carried, unanimously.
The. Chairman stated the funds paid were deposited in the hank to he operated oi> as decided by the secretaries and treasurer. This meeting would be field later when the President of the Returned Soldiers Association (Hr. Appleton) returned to Hokitika. The meeting then concluded.
