The Premier explained that the Bill provided liquor be sold between tho hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Chartered Clubs-and Bellamy’s would be closed at the same hours as hotels. It was not proposed in the Bill -to hold a. referendum on the quetsion and the bill

would come into I'orco on November Ist The question of adjusting rents of hotels, if the reduction . were carried, | would be considered by Cabinet. The measure is not a party one, and every member is free to exercise, his own judgment. Tho Bill was read a tirst time. At the Evening sitting the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill (Mr. Hindwarsh) made .progress jn committee Government agreeing to take it over. The Parliamentary Election Post'Ponomenl Amendment Bill (Mr. Witty) was ruled out of order on tho grounds that it was an appropriation Bill. Hutt ltoad Amendment Bill (Mr. Wright)) was road a second time. Mr. Sidev moved the second reading of the Definition of Time Bill and it was agreed to on tho voices. Maori War Tax Medal Bill (Mr. Wright) was read a second time, after a brief debate. The Toll Gates Abolition Bill was adjourned. . The House rose to enable members to attend the meeting of the Empire Parliamentary Association.
