BREACH OF WAR REGULATIONS,
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the Folice Court, Frank Hyman, manager of the Lyttolton Times Company, was lined £5 for publishing in the "Star” an advertisement by the Socialist Party, announcing a meeting, the advertisement being held to ho of a seditious tendency, and likely to discourage recruiting for the prosecution of tho war.

A meeting of members of Parliament was addresssod by a delegation from tho Second Division League. Tt is understood an effort will he made to get a round table conference between members of parliament and the Ministry.
MISSING
TAIJMARAUNUI, Sept. Bth
Fred Bain, a single man employed by a farmer down the river, and formerly employed at Otorohanga and Taihape disappeared from the Club Hotel here on August a.m., leaving his watch behind. It is believed that he met with a fatal accident crossing tho Wanganui River making for Rait’s farm, where he worked. The police have made an unsuccessful search.

TIMARU, September 9
Miss Ida Mann M. A. aged twentynine, teacher at school on two months sick leave for nervous breakdown was staying here with her uncle. She was apparently recovering and on Saturday evening was quite cheerful and went to hod. During the night slio got up without disturbing nnyorio, and this morning was found dead.
BOYS CHARGED.
EMULATING PICTURE FILM CRIMINAL.
AUCKLAND, September 8
At tho Juvenile Court to-day threte lads were charged with entering a house and wilfully damaging furniture and thefts It was stated that the lads deliberately smashed the furniture with an axe.
The probation officer stated that the lion's had confessed that they had been influenced by several pictures depicting incidents in the career of a criminal known as Stingaree. Five groups, involving twenty boys in various suburbs htul appeared at the Court during the last three weeks. He said the picture had been shown in Auckland. They wore charged with committing crimes in imitation of the priniopal character in the picture. Mr. Fraser S.M. telegraphed to the Under-Secretary of Justice suggesting that the picture should be banned.
A COUNCIL SQUABBLE,
MARTON, Sept. 12,
All Councillors of, Mar ton Borough publish a signed letter ill to-day’s Advocate, calling upon the Mayor, Mr. Wilson to justify his action in resigning from all Committees or to resign the Mayoralty. The position arises through* a conflict between the caretaker of the Town Hall and the Mayor, on Anniversary Day,
Thi? Mayor at last Council meeting moved a resolution suspending tho caretaker who is also lessee of the hall. This was defeated hv five votes to two. The Mayor then resigned from all committees.
WILLING TO ACCEPT. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 12. Dr. Truby King states ho is willing to accept the offer cabled from London, provided that Government sanction his acceptance.

Heavy slips on the Midland railway line near Staircase Gully delayed yestor- J day’s train from the West Coast fori ten hours. 1 SHIPPING DISPUTE. NO PROSPECT OF SETTLEMENT. WELLINGTON, Sept. 11 There appears to ho no prospect of an early settlement of the dispute between the small steamship owners and • the seamen. It is announced that the crews of all tho small coastal vessels in port will ho paid off to-morrow. There are now eighteen steamers held up at Wellington and it is feared that tho Putiki which is due here tomorrow will also be involved in - the t rouble.
Tho Tainui is tho only small vessel of the class concerned in the dispute which-has left Wellington since Friday. She arrived this morning from Lyttelton and sailed again for that port to-night. f
