(Received this day at 1.20 a.m.,) C J STOCKHOLM, Sept Bth. Part of the German High Seas fleet lias reinforced the (Baltic fleet, which’ is sailing northwards. The Russian fleet is preparing for battle. The sailors have expressed the determination to fight'to the last shell.

A French eastern communique dated September 6th. states that the artillery struggle is somewhat violent in the region of the Vardar, especially on the left bank where the BrL
artillery has continued its destructive fire. The enemy twice attacked the Russian, position between Lakes Prespa and Oclirida. The first completely failed and the second enabled the enemy to enter some elements in the advanced trenches.
TYPHUS IN DENMARK. COPENHAGEN, September 7. There is a terrible epidemic of typhus at Warenminkie. It has spread to Southern Denmark. DOUGLAS CARSON ARRESTED. LONDON, September 7. ADIS ABEBiA, September 7. Reuter’s corespondent states that after a fierce battlo near Dessie, Lidjyosson’s army was routed. His best generals were killed. There is a report that Lidjyasson was shot while escaping, but it has not been confirmed. THE POPE’S PLAN. VIENNA, September 8. The “Reichstag” learns that the Pope intends to pjropose *' peace ooiAfereno ©accompanied by a cessation of fighting, provided the replies of the Powers to the Papal Note afford any chance for negotiations. If the replies are otherwise the Pope will express his own views in a solemn proclamation, as leader of the Church.
PRISONERS IN TURKEY. LONDON September 7. The Preaa Bureau states that parcels for prisoners in Asiatic Turkey, except magnesia, have been suspended. Letters and money orders are still being forwarded. INCREASE IN SOLDIERS’ PAY. LONDON, Sep. 4. The newspaper statements regarding increases in soldiers’ pay were not authorised and were inaccurate. An official announcement will be made shortly. FRENCH CABINET RESIGNS. PARIS, Sep. 7. Cabinet has resigned. M. Poincare has asked M. Ribot to reconstruct it.
