CLAIM FOR DAMAGES, y CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 27

At the Supreme Court to-day, Minnie Jones, widow- find administratrix of the estate of Walter Jones, proceeuv. against the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board on behalf of herself and four children to recover £2,500 as compensation for the death of iier husband, which was caused through his being electrocuted while engaged in working on the roof at the infectious diseases hospital at Bottle Lake, on May 30th. The jury awarded _ plaintiff £2OOO damages—£looo for 'herself and £250 for each of the four children. The jury recommended that tho widow should draw the interest of the children’s money fpr their upkeep until they attained then* majority.

Aug. 27. JV.t the Military Seivice Board Air McViliy stated that 'arrangements had been made for the release of an additional 137 men, which cleared up the dIVO drawn in the first railway ballot. The Department did not ask for any further delay in these cases. Of these, 604 had been dismissed, including the first 400 in the railway ballot, and 52 had been withdrawn. In 215 cases no appeals were lodged, and in addition 215 men who had enlisted voluntarily hod been granted leave. It would be seen that 986 men had left the service since November, 19T6.
