LEAVE FOR MAIN BODY

THE INVITATION TO WESTLAND

The Overseas Club is t in receipt of the following letter from the Hon. Minister of Derenco in respect to a proposal made to permit a contingent of the returning Main Body to risit Westland on holiday leave “I am in receipt of your letter ol 10th August conveying the appreciation of the Hokitika Overseas Club at th< ! decision of the New Zealand Governi ment to permit members of. the Mail' Body and earlior reinforcements of the New Zealand Expeditionary, force to return to Now Zealand on furlough, and to thank you for same. ‘•Respecting tho suggestion that during the men’s respite in the Dominion they be permitted to visit "Westland, including Hokitika, and whilst there he the guests of your Club, it is regretted that at tho present moment a definite promise in this direction cannot be given ns tho main consideration in prompting tho granting of furlough is to allow tho men who tako advantage of it to return and visit their relatives and friends, also to arrange private business matters needing their attention.

“No doubt should a number of men from Westland return on furlough it may bo possible for your Club to arrange for a little holiday for the men in a body to visit points of interest in the district.”
